Pompey fight off stubborn Copeswood challenge

Pompey Ladies secured their first victory of the season by beating Coventry Copeswood 4-2 away in the qualifying round of the Premier League Cup. Blakely; Frampton (Taylor 74), Goodall, Rutherford, Bazan; Dark (Sievwright 80), Clark (Bloomfield 84); Kemspon, Wilsom, Quinn; HillierPompey:

And this time they did not let the lead slip, with Sarah Kempson’s deflected effort from 30 yards killing the tie off.

The Blues forged ahead for a third time on 72 minutes, though, as Quinn slid the ball past Duncan.

Coventry then equalised for a second time early in the second half, as Foskett chipped the onrushing Sadie Blakely.

Quinn did restore Pompey’s advantage just before the interval, however, with a lofted cross that left Duncan wrong-footed.

But the hosts levelled through Nicola Foskett before Lucy Quinn was denied by a fine double save.

The Blues broke the lead on 16 minutes when Molly Clark’s shot skimmed past goalkeeper Nikki Duncan and into the net.
