Charity match at Fratton Park next month
Customers at Covers Timber and Builders Merchants have been given a rare opportunity to play against a Pompey charity side at Fratton Park.
On Friday, May 8 they will take on a side including former Blues players to help improve the lives of young people locally.
Former Fratton stars Darren Anderton, Paul Walsh, Alan Knight, Joe Laidlaw, Dave Waterman and Shaun Gale are among those who will take on 33 Covers customers during three 30-minute matches, kicking-off from 6.30pm.
Customers at Covers’ Portsmouth, Gosport and Chichester depots were invited to take part for a recommended £60 donation, which includes their own Pompey shirt to wear on the night.
A raffle and awards for man-of-the-match and best goal will be held in the bar following the action, while all money raised will be donated to Pompey in the Community
Steve Weston, director of sales at Covers, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the avid Pompey fans among our customers – they will not only enjoy the privilege of meeting and going up against some past players, but will also get the chance to play on the hallowed pitch at Fratton Park.
“Our customers jumped at the chance to raise money for such a great cause and it’ll be something to look forward to after work on a Friday.”
Members of the public are invited to spectate on the evening. Although there is no ticket fee, buckets for donations will be on hand to help boost the coffers. You can also donate online here.
