TAYLOR: WE CAN'T AFFORD TO RELAX

6 April 2015

Striker wants to build on Plymouth win

Pompey secured their first victory in five matches against Plymouth.

And Ryan Taylor wants to see plenty more before the 2014/15 campaign comes to an end on May 2.

The striker netted the Blues’ second in their 2-1 triumph, getting in front of his man to head home a Dan Butler cross.

That was after Jed Wallace had superbly opened the scoring at the start of the second half.

Now Taylor believes it is vital they maintain a high standard in the final five games.

He said: “It’s not holiday time yet, so we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas. We need to keep going.

“We’re delighted to get the three points and hopefully we can get a few more before the end of the season.

“We were hanging on a bit towards the end, but it was a good result for us.

“In the first half we were a bit sloppy and were giving the ball away too easily – that was plain to see.

“But we controlled things better in the second and Jed got another great goal to spark something.

“That’s 16 games from midfield for him now and it was another excellent performance to help us win the game.

“Then what a cross it was from Dan for my goal – he does that every day in training.”

Taylor’s goal was his fifth in the last six home matches and he is keen to continue that impressive form.

He said: “It’s been pretty good and I’m just taking each game as it comes, trying to build on my performances.

“Hopefully I can carry that on in the final few fixtures, so I need to keep working hard on the training ground.”
