COOK: SOME PEOPLE TALKING NONSENSE

21 August 2015

Boss amazed at comments about his side

Pompey have received plenty of plaudits for their impressive start to the season.

A haul of seven points from a possible nine – and a Capital One Cup triumph over Championship opposition – has not gone unnoticed.

But Paul Cook finds it strange that people at other clubs have been so vocal about his side.

And he insists that it is far too early to talk about which teams will be battling for promotion later in the campaign.

The Blues boss said: “Some of the comments about us I’ve heard from other managers have been quite startling.

“We’ve played three games and are apparently the best team in the league – it’s amazing.

“These managers must have watched every other team in our division because I certainly haven’t and I try my best to get to games.

“I think it must be good in management today to load stuff onto other people and that can deflect from how much you’ve spent yourselves and the aspirations of your own club.

“We should all just concentrate on ourselves – I’ve certainly never known any side to be the best in August.

“We’ve gone from where we finished last year to all of a sudden being the greatest after just three matches! I’ve never heard such nonsense in my whole life.”

Pompey will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they host Morecambe this weekend.

Cook said: “They have got some decent players and Jim Bentley has done a good job there for a number of years.

“They’re always very strong and we know they’ll be difficult opponents – we’re preparing for a tough game.

“If we have to be patient, then we’ll be patient. You might only need your flair players to open the door once.”
