MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v READING

25 August 2015

All you need to know about Capital One Cup clash

Pompey and Reading clash at Fratton Park for their first ever meeting in the League Cup tonight.

Both sides go into the game on the back of weekend home draws – the Blues shared six goals with Morecambe, while nobody netted when the Royals met MK Dons.

Reading’s only previous victory this season came in the first round of this competition, with Chris Gunter’s extra-time strike seeing off Colchester.

They were beaten at Birmingham on the opening day in the Championship and have since had three successive stalemates.

Steve Clarke’s side finished 19th in the second tier last term, but did reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they were beaten by eventual winners Arsenal at Wembley.

TEAM NEWS
Kal Naismith (thigh) and Jack Whatmough (knee) are both sidelined for Pompey, while Enda Stevens is serving one-match ban following his sending off against Morecambe.

Forwards Pavel Pogrebnyak (ankle) and Dominic Samuel (knee) will miss out for the Royals.
