LAVERY ENJOYING HOME COMFORTS

Goalscorer thrilled with Fratton form

Pompey’s home form was the cause for much frustration a few weeks ago.

But 10 unanswered goals in successive Fratton league fixtures has improved the mood on the south coast.

The Blues followed last month’s 6-0 mauling of York with a 4-0 triumph over Hartlepool in the final home game before Christmas.

Caolan Lavery opened the scoring with an exquisite first half finish and is enjoying being part of a winning team.

The on-loan striker said: “When I first came here all the talk was about how we’ve been struggling at home.

“But the last few games have been really nice to experience and things are really brightening up at Fratton Park.

“We’ve got belief in ourselves and have been working hard in training to make sure we get things right. Long may it continue.

“It was a difficult start against Hartlepool, but we’ve learnt to stay relaxed because eventually things will start to happen.

“It’s nice to score another goal, but if they’re shared about and we get three points then that’s all that matters.”

Lavery has linked up impressively with fellow loan forward Marc McNulty in recent weeks, but is well aware that are other players are waiting to pounce.

He said: “Marc’s a very good player and when you’ve got people like that beside you, it’s going to make you improve.

“He has shown a touch of class at times and it’s been brilliant being alongside him on the pitch.

“We’ve both had to take our chances because there are guys like Conor Chaplin, Adam McGurk, Jayden Stockley and Matt Tubbs ready to come in.

“You always have to be on your toes and if you get that shirt then you have to work hard to keep it.”
