MATCH PREVIEW: NORTHAMPTON v POMPEY

18 December 2015

All you need to know about League Two clash

Pompey face arguably their toughest test of the season so far when they travel to Northampton this weekend.

Chris Wilder’s Cobblers currently sit at the League Two summit, six points ahead of the fourth-placed Blues.

They are enjoying an excellent run of form, winning their last seven games in all competitions and have not tasted defeat since the middle of October.

That is despite players and staff not getting paid for two months earlier in the campaign, while Northampton were also subject to a winding-up petition.

But the threat of administration has been lifted since former Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas completed his takeover last month.

The sides met three times last term, with each winning on their own patch in the league, while the Cobblers also triumphed at Fratton Park in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

But Pompey were 1-0 victors at Sixfields Stadium the previous season, with Danny East grabbing the only goal.

TEAM NEWS
Gary Roberts (ankle), Matt Tubbs (ankle) and Jack Whatmough (knee) are all back in training, but not yet ready to feature.

Christian Burgess (ankle) is also out, while Paul Jones has recently undergone surgery on a knee problem.

Northampton have no fresh injury concerns, although former Pompey winger Ricky Holmes will likely have to settle for a place on the bench.
