MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v ACCRINGTON

4 December 2015

All you need to know about cup clash

Pompey and Accrington put their promotion bids to one side this weekend and try to book a place in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Blues have not been in the hat with the Premier League sides since they were relegated from the Championship in 2012.

Stanley, meanwhile, have not remained in the competition after Christmas since reaching the fourth round in 2010.

They currently sit fourth in the League Two table, one point above Pompey and with a game in hand on everyone else in the top eight.

Accrington have won five of their last six matches – a run that includes their 3-2 first round victory over York and a 5-1 league triumph over the same opposition.

Highly-rated midfielder Josh Windass – who has been linked with a move elsewhere in January – leads their scoring charts with 11 goals.

Pompey have previously met Stanley three times in the FA Cup, beating them 5-2 in 1925 before requiring a replay to progress in 1959.

TEAM NEWS
Gary Roberts and Matt Tubbs (both ankle) are still sidelined, while the game could come too soon for Paul Jones (knee).

Caolan Lavery has not been given permission to play in the FA Cup by parent club Sheffield Wednesday, but all of Pompey's other loan players are available for selection.

Defender Dean Winnard is suffering from an illness, but Accrington otherwise have a clean bill of health.
