Pompey playing host to popular band
British pop legends Madness are coming to Fratton Park in June after choosing the iconic venue as a stage for the band’s 2015 ‘Grandslam’ UK tour.
The tour, which runs from May to September, will take in 19 shows at some of the greatest sporting venues around the country, including racecourses, cricket grounds, rugby and football stadiums.
Madness will perform at Fratton Park on June 6, as part of the UK’s greatest-ever live open air tour this summer.
These shows will offer the concertgoers the unique experience of an outdoor event with a festival vibe, set within iconic huge green spaces.
Pompey chief executive Mark Catlin said: “We are delighted to be hosting a Madness live concert at Fratton Park as part of their 2015 tour.
“They are a huge act and we are confident that there will be a significant demand to see them perform – not only from our own supporters, but from a broader section of music fans throughout the UK and beyond.
“The club will be working in partnership with the Liz Hobbs Group, who have more than 25 years’ experience of managing music concerts.”
The band said: “Come see, come see! The world’s strongest band perform incredible feats live! Marvel as Madness lift an enormous set of polished pop songs high in the air, single handed! The UK's biggest open air tour ever! Rolling into a town near you, soon.”
Madness will be performing inimitable quirky pop classics such as ‘House of Fun’, ‘Baggy Trousers’ and ‘My Girl’ – iconic songs that are guaranteed to draw you in and get you dancing and singing along.
The band will also be performing some of their new songs/material – their first new recordings in three years.
A band of the people, who inject fun into everything they do, the Madness Grandslam tour promises to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the greatest bands in the world play one of the most iconic stadiums in the country.
