Former Blues defender passes away

Portsmouth Football Club are mourning the death of former right-back Keith James, who has passed away at the age of 53.

He appeared in the same England Youth team as Alan Knight and Paul Walsh before making his Blues bow as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat to Barnsley in May 1979.

James then started the final three matches of the season and made two further appearances as Pompey won promotion from the fourth tier the following campaign.

He was then released by Frank Burrows and, following a trial at Norwich, dropped into the non-league game and played in two FA Vase finals.

Portsmouth Football Club would like to send their deepest condolences to Keith’s family and friends.

His funeral will be held at Breakspear Crematorium in Ruislip at 12.45pm on January 14.
