DOYLE: WE'RE ALL EAGER TO IMPRESS

11 July 2015

Goalscorer on Pompey's pre-season opener

Pompey fans saw seven summer signings in action at Westleigh Park.

Kyle Bennett, Christian Burgess, Kal Naismith, Gary Roberts, Enda Stevens and Jayden Stockley all featured against Havant & Waterlooville.

But it was second half substitute Michael Doyle who arguably made the biggest impression.

The midfielder grabbed the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw – driving home from the edge of the box after collecting Bennett’s pass.

And he is eager to continuing impressing ahead of the opening League Two match against Dagenham & Redbridge next month.

Doyle said: “It was a typical pre-season game – pretty open, end-to-end and could have gone either way.

“But it was nice to get out on the pitch again after a couple of weeks of hard work.

“I think you could see glimpses of what we can do and that should be more evident the more games we play.

“There are so many new faces and we’re still getting to know one another, so there’s still plenty of work to be done.

“Pre-season is all about giving the manager the chance to look at everyone, so we’ve got to take that opportunity to impress him.

“Then the aim for me is to do my bit to help this club get promoted and everyone here feels the same.”

Doyle was pleased to see Pompey supporters turn out in force to support their side at Westleigh Park.

He said: “It was great to see so many fans come out to back us at the start of a long – and hopefully successful – season.

“To see the sort of following we get for just a pre-season game shows you just how massive a club this is.”
