STEVENS: PROMOTION OUR AIM

15 June 2015

New signing is aiming high

He is the latest addition to Paul Cook’s new-look Pompey squad.

And Enda Stevens has echoed his manager’s ambitions by immediately targeting promotion from the fourth tier.

The former Aston Villa left-back – who spent most of last season on loan at Doncaster – has arrived at the Blues in a two-year deal.

Now he is excited about the opportunity to show the Fratton faithful what he is capable of.

Stevens said: “I’m buzzing to be here and I’m just looking forward to getting back for the start of pre-season.

“There were a few other options in League One, but this was a no-brainer because of the size of the club and the manager’s aspirations for it.

“It’s easy to forget that this is a League Two club when you walk around the place and hopefully we can start to move back up the divisions.

“Promotion is everyone’s aim and it’s time the club stopped underachieving and reached its potential.

“I’ve seen the average attendances here and I’ve heard about how brilliant the fans are from the gaffer and the chairman.

“I want to hit the ground running, get a good pre-season under my belt and hopefully have a successful season.”

Stevens will be linking up with fellow new signing Kyle Bennett, who he played with at Doncaster last term.

The 24-year-old said: “It’s brilliant that he’s also down here. We’ve been texting each other about the move and I’m delighted that we’ll be on the same team again.”
