Pompey duo named top boss and player
Andy Awford and Jed Wallace have been named Sky Bet League Two Manager and Player of the Month for February.
Awford saw off competition from Bury’s David Flitcroft, Plymouth’s John Sheridan and Northampton’s Chris Wilder to claim his prize.
Wallace, meanwhile, was chosen ahead of Plymouth’s Lewis Alessandra, Dagenham & Redbridge’s Jamie Cureton and Burton’s Phil Edwards.
Awford said: “It’s me who collects the award, but it’s gratefully received on behalf of everyone at the club.
“February was a really good month for us, so credit to the players and staff for delivering.
“Jed had a fantastic month in February and has played an important role for the team in us getting a decent return of points.
“His goals, assists and overall contribution have been consistent and the challenge for him and the team now is to be just as consistent throughout the remainder of the season.”
Wallace said: “It’s nice to be recognised individually and for the team to do well throughout the month was a double bonus.
“There were some really good players nominated for the award and luckily I’ve been able to pip them.”
George Burley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, added: “February was an excellent month for Pompey, accumulating 14 points from six games.
“They showed great consistency and attacking play, while keeping four clean sheets. On top of this, they had a truly amazing 6-2 away win against Cambridge.”
Sky Bet football trading manager Paul Lowery said: “Jed Wallace’s trickery and pace have been at the heart of Pompey’s good form.
“He starred in the 6-2 win over Cambridge, scoring once and getting four assists. That scoreline was 250/1 prior to the game.”
