BLUES SWOOP FOR NOSWORTHY AND KPEKAWA

19 March 2015

Defenders arrive on loan from Blackpool and QPR

Pompey have signed defenders Nyron Nosworthy and Cole Kpekawa on loan until the end of the season.

Centre-back Nosworthy, 34, arrives from Blackpool, while Kpekawa – who is 18 and can play in the middle or on the left – has been brought in from QPR.

"I spoke to the manager and he made me feel very welcome and confident," said Nosworthy, who has been handed the number 24 shirt. "I'm looking forward to finishing the season strongly and playing in front of 15,000 fans every other week."

Kpekawa, who will wear number 28 during his time at Fratton Park, added: "I can't wait to get out in front of such big crowds and gain more first team experience for such a massive club."

Blues boss Andy Awford said: “Nyron has a wealth of experience and will give us a presence that we miss with Paul Robinson and Jack Whatmough both out injured.

“Cole is young, energetic and a good athlete. He gives us options across the defence and is left-sided, so offers a bit of balance.

“We needed to strengthen at the back, so I look forward to working with them and we’re grateful to both Blackpool and QPR.”

Jamaica international Nosworthy started his career at Gillingham before going on to play Premier League football with Sunderland.

He then tuned out for Watford and joined Blackpool in a short-term deal last November, making five appearances for the Championship outfit.

QPR academy graduate Kpekawa has yet to make his senior debut for the Londoners, but played six times while on loan at Colchester earlier this season.
