Whatmough interviewed in Cheltenham programme
He has already made 23 appearances in his first full season as a first team player.
And Jack Whatmough is loving his role at the heart of Pompey’s defence.
The teenager has missed just two of the last 10 games, during which time the Blues have kept six clean sheets and lost only once.
Whatmough is delighted to have featured so regularly and is determined to build on his impressive displays.
“I’ve had a bit of stop-start season with a few injuries, but I think I’ve done alright when I’ve been fit and in the team,” he says in the official matchday magazine for tonight’s clash with Cheltenham.
“I’ve been able to build on the games I played last season and am always looking to keep improving.
“I didn’t think I would have so many matches under my belt by the time I was 18, especially at centre-back.
“But the gaffer put a lot of trust in me over the past few years and has helped me grow as a player, so I’ve been determined to repay his faith. He knows exactly what I’m about and what I can do.”
