TUBBS: WE'RE A MATCH FOR ANYONE

27 March 2015

Striker confident Blues can beat Shrews

Matt Tubbs believes Pompey are capable of hurting Shrewsbury this weekend.

League Two’s second-placed side visit Fratton Park looking to strengthen their bid for third tier football next term.

The Shrews have won four of the last six games on their travels, with former Blues skipper Liam Lawrence netting twice as they beat Oxford in their last outing.

But Tubbs believes that Pompey have the quality in their ranks to upset the odds and claim victory.

The striker said: “We’ve had a couple of frustrating results and we know – as do the fans – that we can play a lot better than that.

“The challenge for us now is to push ourselves over the final eight games and have no excuses.

“It’s a good test for us against Shrewsbury on Saturday and we know it’s not going to be easy against a strong side.

“But if we reach the levels that we know we’re capable of then we should be a match for anyone in this division.

“They’re in the automatic promotions places at the moment, so will come here fired up and looking for a massive three points.

“But if we get that early goal then I think we’re capable of turning teams over.”

Tubbs has struck up a good partnership with Ryan Taylor – the duo have contributed 11 goals in the last eight games.

“We work hard in training throughout the week,” said Tubbs. “That seems to have turned into a good pairing on the pitch.

“It helps that we’ve got other good strikers waiting in the wings because it keeps you on your toes.”

Matt Tubbs is available at 5/1 with Sky Bet to open the scoring against Shrewsbury. Bet at www.skybet.com/pompey to increase our chances of claiming £250,000 from the Sky Bet Transfer Fund.
