Striker settled on the south coast

He has struggled for regular time out on the pitch this season.

So Marc McNulty was delighted to make his first start for Pompey against AFC Wimbledon on Sunday.

The striker – who arrived on loan from Sheffield United earlier this month – created the Blues’ best chance in the televised goalless draw.

And he is enjoying the opportunity to show what he is capable of on the south coast.

McNulty said: “It was good to get 90 minutes under my belt because it’s been a while since I’ve done that.

“The gaffer, coaching staff and all the boys have made me feel very welcome since I arrived here.

“That’s what you want when you arrive at a new club – it’s nice when people make it feel like home.

“The move was a long time coming, but I’m here now and have enjoyed my time at Pompey so far.

“It’s important for me to get regular games at this stage of my career and that’s what I want to do here.”

McNulty was disappointed that Pompey were unable to collect all three points against the Dons and is hoping for a better result at Carlisle this weekend.

He said: “It was a frustrating result for us and the longer the game wore on, the more we tried to force passes.

“The boys have told me that our away record is a lot better this season for whatever reason – maybe it’s that they’re more relaxed.

“So I’m looking forward to going to Carlisle on Saturday and we’ll visit there with plenty of confidence.”
