COOK: STAGS ON THE CHARGE

23 October 2015

Boss looks ahead to Mansfield clash

Pompey may have the best away record in the entire Football League.

But Saturday’s visitors to Fratton Park have also enjoyed plenty of joy on the road this season.

Mansfield have won five of their seven matches away from the One Call Stadium and suffered just two defeats.

That leaves them sitting fourth in the League Two table and Paul Cook is anticipating a tough test against Adam Murray’s men.

The Blues boss said: “They’re doing really well and are having a fantastic season.

“There will be sides in this league that get the label of ‘big club’, while others like Mansfield will be able to sail under the radar a bit.

“But you look at the squad that Adam has been able to put together and realise they’re a very strong side.

“It’s great to see young managers being given a chance and he’s done a terrific job there.

“We all know plenty about Craig Westcarr. He’s a smashing lad and a good player and we wish him well – although obviously not tomorrow!

“They’ve had great results all season and it’s going to be a really difficult game – we’ll have to be on it.

“If you disrespect your opposition for any reason then you’ll find yourself on the seat of your pants.

“But there’ll be another big crowd at Fratton Park and it’s a match that we’re looking forward to.”

Pompey will have to do without Gary Roberts against the Stags, with the midfielder sidelined with an ankle injury.

Cook said: “He’s been playing with it since the Barnet game and had been having injections.

“He’ll be out for a couple of weeks, but we’ve got a good squad and it gives someone else the chance to come in.”
