Hollands reflects on Mansfield draw

Danny Hollands believes Pompey’s patient style will eventually reap rewards.

The Blues were unable to break down a stubborn Mansfield defence and had to settle for a third successive home draw.

But fantastic form on the road means they are still sitting second in the League Two table.

And Hollands has called on the Fratton faithful to remain patient as Pompey try to improve further.

The midfielder said: “Mansfield had a bit of a go early on, but after that they shut up shop and played for a point.

“It’s becoming a familiar story in our home games and it’s frustrating at times.

“Brian Murphy hasn’t had a shot to save, so that tells you all you need to know about the match.

“We created a couple of decent chances that we perhaps should have converted.

“But we’ve just got to get our heads down, prepare to go again and hopefully take all three points when we go to Notts County next week.

“I think the way we’re playing now is a bit more patient than it has been in the past under different managers.

“We’re dictating games and are where we are in the league because of our style of play, so I’m sure the fans will get behind us.

“Hopefully it will click and we’ll be able to open sides up to really give them something to cheer about.

“We’re not happy to be second – we want to be top and we’re only going to achieve that with hard work on the training pitch.”
