MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v STEVENAGE

20 October 2015

All you need to know about League Two clash

Teddy Sheringham was a favourite with the Fratton faithful during his season playing for Pompey.

The striker netted the Blues’ first Premier League goal, netting 10 goals in 38 appearances during the 2003/04 campaign.

But now he is in his first managerial role at Stevenage, having replaced Graham Westley at the Lamex Stadium over the summer.

Boro sit 20th in League Two with 13 points from as many games and have yet to win on the road.

They have collected four points from their two most recent fixtures, however, including Saturday’s home triumph over Wycombe – which included a goal from goalkeeper Jesse Joronen.

Pompey won 3-2 in the corresponding fixture last term, courtesy of a late winner from Joe Devera, while the only other Fratton meeting between the sides finished goalless.

TEAM NEWS
Paul Jones (knee), Adam McGurk (ankle), Jayden Stockley (ankle) and Jack Whatmough (knee) are all sidelined.

Gareth Evans also misses out as he serves the second game of a three-match suspension.

Stevenage could hand a debut to experienced midfielder Michael Tonge, but Chris Whelpdale is struggling with a groin problem and fellow midfielder Steven Schumacher is banned.
