TUBBS STRIVING FOR FORTRESS FRATTON

20 October 2015

Striker interviewed in tonight's programme

Pompey currently have the best away record in the entire Football League.

But, despite having been beaten just once, their form at Fratton Park has not been quite so sparkling.

The Blues have won two and drawn three of their six home fixtures ahead of Stevenage’s visit to the south coast.

And an in-form Matt Tubbs insists that the squad are working hard to improve that record.

“One reason why we might be getting better results away is that teams look to defend more when they come to Fratton,” he says in the official matchday magazine for tonight’s clash with Boro. “It’s tough to break them down.

“We need to make sure that we get that early goal and force our opponents to come out a bit more and show some ambition.

“At the end of the day, we’re winning most of our away games and not losing many at home – if we keep doing that then we’ll get promoted.

“That doesn’t mean we’re not trying to work on improving our home form, however – we want to make Fratton a fortress and give the fans plenty to cheer about.

“They’ve been brilliant ever since I’ve been here and deserve a successful team to support.”

Read the full interview – where Tubbs also discusses his own form and Pompey’s young talent – by picking up a programme from sellers around Fratton Park tonight.

Also in issue nine, Ben Tollitt dishes the dirt on his team-mates and Aaron McCarey selects his dream team.

We take an in-depth look at Stevenage before delving into the Pompey archives to take a walk down memory lane.

There are also exclusive columns from chairman Iain McInnes, manager Paul Cook and skipper Michael Doyle.

All this and much, much more in a packed 84 pages is available for just £3.
