Blues ease to 3-0 win over QPR

Pompey Ladies maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 3-0 victory over QPR at Privett Park.

The took the lead on 27 minutes when keeper Jo Sseninde failed to deal with Lucy Quinn’s 40-yard effort, which went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Sarah Kempson also struck the woodwork moments later and this time the ball bounced kindly for Charley Wilson to head home.

And Shannon Sievwright completed the scoring after the interval, pouncing after Sseninde spilled Kempson’s free-kick.

Pompey might have added a fourth right at the death, but Gemma Simmonds’ fierce strike came back off the bar.

Blues boss Perry Northeast said: “We’re delighted with the result, although I’m not sure we played with the same tempo or panache that we showed against Coventry on Sunday.

“But we were able to keep a clean sheet and had three different goalscorers, so overall I’m happy.

“In a game where we weren’t as fluid collectively as we have been, it took some individuals to sort things out.

“We travel to Lewes at the weekend and they’ll want a response after losing their last three games, so we’ll have to be up for it.

“It will be difficult for us, but we’ve got a squad that’s more than capable of competing and challenging for the three points.”

Pompey: Blakely; Frampton, Rutherford, Atkinson, Bazan (Taylor 69); Kempson, Bloomfield (Sievwright 64), Simmonds, Quinn (Benson 81); Hillier, Wilson
