McGURK UNFUSSED OVER POMPEY ROLE

14 September 2015

Forward happy just to play

Adam McGurk is unsure where he will be able to cause most damage for Pompey this season.

But leading the line is certainly an option following his performance against Barnet at the weekend.

The summer signing took advantage of a first league start by firing the Blues’ second goal in a 3-1 triumph at Fratton Park

Conor Chaplin also bagged a brace as the hosts recovered from falling behind to claim all three points.

And McGurk, who has also been used as part of an attacking three behind a lone striker this season, was delighted to make a contribution.

He said: “I’m happy just playing – if you’re out on the pitch and winning then you don’t really care where you are.

“I don’t think I actually know my best position, so I’ll just go wherever the manager wants to use me.

“Going a goal down was a bad start, but we showed good character to fight back and get the victory.

“We really need to win because the previous two home games hadn’t gone the way we wanted.

“Barnet were complaining that Benno was offside for my goal, but he didn’t interfere with play and I gambled and put it in.

“I’m delighted for Conor. He has a brilliant attitude and is always doing extra work in training, which is what you want to see from young players.

“We were up against big and physical defenders and didn’t play as well as we can, although created quite a few chances in the second half.

“Hopefully as the season goes on and we train together more as a team, then we can improve further.”
