Winger reflects on Dagenham triumph
It was a day to remember for Kyle Bennett in Dagenham.
The winger set-up two goals before scoring one himself as Pompey fought from behind to eventually secure a comfortable 4-1 victory.
He delivered two free-kicks that were headed home by first Christian Burgess and then Gareth Evans.
Bennett then completed the scoring late on, as the Blues ensured that they stayed in the race for automatic promotion.
“I got two assists and a goal, but the win’s the most important thing for me,” he told Pompey PlayerHD.
“What set us up for the result was the equaliser by Michael Doyle – who was captain fantastic once again.
“We knew what we were going to come up against and unfortunately just weren’t at the races in the first half.
“The manager came in at half-time to give us a pep talk and obviously the lads have responded to what he said – we came out all guns blazing.
“Getting the early goal was key because we’ve got great players in this team – guys like Gary Roberts and Michael Smith.
“If we got the first one then we knew it would only be a matter of time before we scored again and that’s what happened.
“We work on free-kicks in training and know where to put the ball or where to make the runs and it’s paid off.
“We’ve had trouble with set-pieces this season and that’s been well documented, but we’ve scored twice from them on this occasion.”
