SMITH: MASSIVE GAMES AHEAD

1 April 2016

Striker interviewed in Carlisle programme

There are sure to be plenty of twists and turns in the race to win promotion from League Two.

Northampton appear to have the title sown up, but there are several sides battling it out to go up automatically or claim a play-off place.

And Pompey still have to face several of them in the closing weeks of the 2015/16 campaign.

So Michael Smith is hoping that the Blues can find some consistency and pick up plenty of points.

“We’ve still got to play sides like Plymouth and Wycombe who are around us,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash with Carlisle. “There are also others who are fighting for their lives at the other end of the table – and they’re going to be just as tricky.

“But we’ve got some talented technical players here who are capable of providing success for the supporters.

“We’ve had some big results, including against other sides who are also pushing for promotion, so now we just need to win games on a more regular basis.

“You don’t want to be floating around in mid-table at this advanced stage of the season and a club of this size should always be looking to kick on and achieve something special.”

To read the full interview – where Smith also discusses what it is like to play at Fratton Park – pick up a copy of the matchday magazine from programme sellers around the ground on Saturday.

Also in issue 26, Ryan Fulton dishes the dirt on his team-mates and Marc McNulty selects his dream team.

We take an in-depth look at Carlisle before delving into the archives to take a walk down memory lane.

There are also exclusive columns from chairman Iain McInnes, manager Paul Cook and skipper Michael Doyle.

All this and much, much more in a packed 84 pages is available for just £3.
