HUNT SEALS POMPEY DEAL

4 August 2016

Blues bring in Irish striker

Pompey have completed the signing of striker Noel Hunt on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old has already featured for the Blues in pre-season and will wear the number 20 shirt.

“This is a fantastic club,” said the former Republic of Ireland international. “They have a great reputation and manager, so it was a no-brainer for me.

“The gaffer wanted me to come down here and see what a professional standard it is. It’s a really high quality.

“I’ve turned down a few clubs from higher leagues because I felt that this was the right one for me.

“This is a club with plenty of ambition and I spoke to friends of mine who have played here before – like Andy Griffin, Jason Pearce and David Norris – and speak very highly about the place.

“It’ll be great to play in front of such large crowds and it gives you an extra buzz when you take to the pitch.”

Hunt started his career at Shamrock Rovers in his homeland before spells with Scottish sides Dunfermline and Dundee United.

He is perhaps best known for his time with Reading, however, where he scored 39 goals in 162 appearances and won promotion to the Premier League.

Hunt moved on to feature for Leeds and Ipswich, spending last season with Southend before departing in May.
