MAY BAGS BRACE IN FRIENDLY WIN

1 August 2016

Blues beat Liverpool foundation side

Adam May scored twice as Pompey beat a Liverpool foundation side 7-0 in a friendly at their Copnor training base.

Noel Hunt headed them in front and that was the only time Reds keeper Owen Wheeler was beaten before the break.

But the goals flowed after the interval, with May scoring twice in the space of just two minutes.

The first arrived following some good build-up play with Kyle Bennett and Curtis Main, while the second saw him collect a Conor Chaplin cross and beat a defender before finding the net.

Gareth Evans then ghosted in at the far post to convert a Kal Naismith pass before Chaplin latched onto a through ball and stroked home a fifth for the Blues.

But there was still time for the hosts to add a couple more, with Ben Tollitt firing into the top corner and Naismith completing the rout in the final seconds.

Pompey: Bass; Oxlade-Chamberlain, T.Davies, May, Naismith; Linganzi (Hollands 72), Close (Widdrington 46); Tollitt, Main, Bennett (Evans 61); Hunt (Chaplin 46)
