TALBOT: CLEAN SHEET SATISFYING

13 August 2016

But defender wants to see more in attack

A shut-out at the back was the main positive to take from Pompey’s goalless draw at Crewe.

The hosts had chances to score, but were unable to test goalkeeper David Forde on too many occasions.

That defensive solidity is something that summer signing Drew Talbot can take confidence from.

But the full-back knows that the Blues have to get it right at both ends of the pitch if they want to achieve their goals.

He said: “We’re disappointed not to have won the game because we started off really brightly.

“We let them come into it a bit more as time progressed and that was frustrating.

“But Crewe are a good side and from a defensive point of view, we have to be satisfied with the clean sheet.

“It was just that we weren’t able to put the ball in the back of the net and that’s something we need to work on.

“Kal Naismith and I were a bit too adventurous on occasion and that allowed them to have a few chances, but it’s our job as full-backs to help out as much as possible.

“We need to take advantage when we’re applying pressure, but it’s not a disaster when you go away and take a point.”

Pompey are unbeaten after two League Two fixtures, but Talbot wants to see them gel quickly to turn draws into victories.

He said: “We need to click as soon as possible and I’m sure everyone will feel better when we have a few more points on the board.

“We’ve got a tough game at Morecambe on Tuesday, but hopefully we can go there and get that first win.”
