BOURNEMOUTH AWAIT IN FA CUP

11 January 2016

Cherries could visit Fratton Park for fourth round clash

Pompey have been handed a potential fourth round tie at home to Premier League side Bournemouth in the Emirates FA Cup.

If they can see off Ipswich in a third round replay, the Cherries will visit Fratton Park on the weekend of January 29-February 1.

The sides have not clashed competitively since August 2013, when Pompey were beaten 1-0 in a League Cup tie in Dorset.

But they hold the edge overall, winning eight of the 20 meetings compared to Bournemouth's seven.

The only previous FA Cup contest between the teams came back in 1991, with Guy Whittingham scoring four goals as the Blues eased to a 5-1 victory.

Former Pompey defender Eddie Howe is in charge of the Cherries, who currently sit 16th in the top-flight table.
