MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v CRAWLEY

1 January 2016

All you need to know about League Two clash

Pompey will look to get their automatic promotion bid back on track when they open 2016 with a home clash against Crawley this weekend.

Saturday’s opponents have lost their last three away matches, including a 2-0 reverse at Wycombe on Monday.

Mark Yates’ men currently sit 13th in the League Two table – a comfortable 15 points clear of the bottom two and five adrift of the play-off places.

A goalless draw with the Blues in Sussex formed part of a five-match unbeaten run at the beginning of the campaign.

But, aside from a fine spell in October that saw four wins in five games, the Reds have not achieved successive triumphs.

They have only tasted success three times on their travels this term, collecting three points at Cambridge (3-0), Newport (3-0) and Hartlepool (2-1).

But they won 2-1 on their only previous visit to Fratton Park for a League One clash in December 2012.

TEAM NEWS
Adam Webster is available for selection after completing a one-match suspension.

Christian Burgess (ankle) and Paul Jones (knee surgery) are both out for the hosts, but Matt Tubbs could feature after returning to training following an ankle problem.

Crawley have been boosted by the news that defender Josh Yorwerth will remain on loan from Ipswich for the rest of the season, but Joe McNerney (knee) and Lanre Oyebanjo (knee) miss out.
