ROBERTS READY FOR ACCRINGTON RETURN

15 January 2016

Midfielder looking forward to facing former club

Gary Roberts is preparing to visit his former side for the second week in succession.

After helping Pompey draw 2-2 at Ipswich in the FA Cup last Saturday, he is now hoping to pick up three points at Accrington.

The midfielder is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces at the Crown Ground.

But his first priority is helping the Blues close the gap on the League Two automatic promotion places.

Roberts said: “If we beat Accrington then we’re fending them off a bit and keeping in touch with the lads above us.

“It’s a big game for us and there are plenty of tough ones coming up, so it’s a massive few weeks for us – starting on Saturday.

“We’ll be ready for what’s ahead – we always are. At the moment, though, we’re not looking past Accrington.

“It’s always nice to go back to your old club and I got a good reception from the fans at Ipswich last week.

“So it’ll be good to see a few old faces again on Saturday, but my main focus is on picking up three points.”

Roberts made his first start in more than two months at Portman Road after recovering from an ankle injury.

He said: “It was a frustrating couple of months just having to watch the lads, but they’ve picked up some good results in that time.

“So it’s nice to be back on the pitch now and have the chance to help them along the way.”
