Game falls victim to heavy rain
Pompey’s match at AFC Wimbledon has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
A 9.15am pitch inspection was called because of heavy overnight rain and the referee Andy Madley decided the game could not go ahead.
The official said: “There’s plenty of standing water all over the field of play and unfortunately it isn’t draining.
“The pitch doesn’t look too bad until you get on it and try to kick a football around.
“Apart from the fact the game would be farcical, I also have to take the players’ safety into account and it’s not worth the risk.”
A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
