DOYLE NAMED PLAYER OF THE SEASON

7 May 2016

Skipper wins top prize

Michael Doyle has won The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season award.

He was presented with the trophy by chief sports writer Neil Allen before the final regular game of the 2015/16 campaign against Northampton.

The Blues skipper was selected by readers of our local newspaper after impressing in his 48 appearances this term.

He follows in the footsteps of players like Mark Hateley, Alan Biley, Paul Walsh, Alan Knight, David James and – last year’s winner – Jed Wallace.

But it was Ben Davies who walked away with the biggest haul of trophies, picking up Player of the Season prizes from six different supporters’ groups.

The right-back was honoured by the Central Branch, South Wales Branch, Chichester, Stateside Pompey, Clan Pompey and Isle of Wight, adding to the award he had already received from the London Supporters’ Club.

Doyle was selected as the star man by the South West Blues, however, while the Northern Blues chose Christian Burgess.
