BENNETT: GET YOUR HEAD DOWN

22 November 2016

Winger ready for Luton test

He was not a regular in the side at the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

So Kyle Bennett is not about to start getting complacent now he has worked his way into the line-up.

The winger has started each of Pompey past six league fixtures – which has included victories over Leyton Orient, Cambridge and Mansfield.

And the message to anyone currently on the periphery is to prove their worth on the training pitch.

Bennett said: “The guys who were in the team ahead of me were doing a great job earlier in the season and we won four on the bounce.

“Now I’ve managed to get back in the side and I’m grateful to be there, but I have to keep working hard to stay there.

“You come to a football club to play games and it would be frustrating for anyone if that wasn’t the case.

“But if it doesn’t happen then all you can do it get your head down and listen to what the manager and coaches are telling you.”

Bennett will now hope to help Pompey beat Luton tonight and leapfrog their opponents in the League Two table.

He said: “They’ve been on a good run and are two points above us, so it’s going to be a tough game – but every one is.

“We know we can go ahead of them with a win, although the gaffer is always clear that you don’t win the league in November.

“A draw could end up being a good result come the end of the season, although we’ll obviously be doing all we can to get all three points.

“We went into Saturday’s game off the back of good league wins against Cambridge and Mansfield and it would have been nice to get another.

“It wasn’t the case, but seven points from nine isn’t a bad tally and now we’ll look to increase that.”
