CHRISTIAN SUPPORTERS' CLUB LAUNCHED

20 November 2016

Former Blues favourites set-up new group

The Alliance Lounge at Fratton Park was the venue for the launch of the new Pompey Christian Supporters’ Club in September.

It is the brainchild of the Faith and Football charity which is based in the city and heading into its 15th year.

Introduced by charity director – and former Blues favourite – Mick Mellows and supported by patron Linvoy Primus, the new club currently has 65 members.

They seek to ‘support the supporters’ and not only arrange events with special guests, but endeavour to serve and meet the needs of club employees, as well as current and former players.

The Christian Supporters’ Club are aiming to work with the Pompey Former Players Association and are planning fundraising initiatives to support ex-players in need.

A curry night was recently held in the Victory Lounge – attended by Christians and non-Christians – and guests met Amine Linganzi and Kyle Bennett, as well as enjoying a talk from Linvoy on his career and faith journey.

The charity was honoured in 2015 with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and by the Enterprise Business Partnership (South) as winners of their ‘Amazing People who promoted Enterprise’ award.

The club will be meeting again in the Alliance Lounge from 7pm on Monday, with all guests welcome.
