HISTORIAN DONATES POMPEY BOOKLETS

3 November 2016

Burgess accepts match report collection

Pompey historian Roger Holmes has donated to the club a set of his recently-published booklets, detailing every game played in the league since 1920.

Holmes, from the Isle of Wight, has been a Blues fan all his life and has collated match reports, scorers, attendances and line-ups from all first team fixtures since the club joined the Football League.

His labour of love is now on sale, with each season booklet costing £2. A full set can be bought for £100 and a post-war set for £70.

Pompey centre-back Christian Burgess, himself a history graduate from Teesside University, received the set on behalf of the club.

He said: “I am passionate about history myself and this set of booklets is an amazing achievement.

“From my degree I know what it takes to ensure you have attention to detail and accuracy, and Roger’s work is impressive.”
