MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v MANSFIELD

11 November 2016

All you need to know about League Two clash

A couple of cup exits in the past few days means that Pompey have nothing else to distract them in the quest for promotion.

And the battle for league points continues this weekend when Mansfield are the latest visitors to Fratton Park.

The omens of either side collecting a maximum haul does not look to encouraging when you view the stats, however.

There have only been nine previous meetings between the Blues and the Stags – and six of them have finished as stalemates.

That includes both of last season’s clashes, with a goalless affair on the south coast followed by a 1-1 draw at Field Mill.

The most recent of Pompey’s two victories in this fixture came during the previous campaign, when goals from Matt Tubbs and Jed Wallace secured Gary Waddock’s only win as caretaker boss.

Mansfield are currently sitting 13th in the League Two standings – four points clear of the bottom two and just three adrift of the play-off spots.

Their only defeat on the road this term came at table-topping Plymouth, while they have beaten both Newport and Leyton Orient on their league travels.

TEAM NEWS
Paul Cook has no injury concerns, but Amine Linganzi serves the second game of his three-match suspension.

Mansfield will be without defender George Taft, who is struggling with a hamstring problem.
