RESERVES BEATEN BY ROBINS

Central League Cup loss for Blues

Pompey Reserves lost 2-0 at Bristol City in their latest Central League Cup group stage fixture.

They fell behind midway through the first half when Dominic Hyam clipped Osagi Bascome in the box and Jake Andrews sent Liam O’Brien the wrong way from the spot.

Jez Bedford and Theo Widdrington both fired narrowly over, but the Blues failed to carve out many clear-cut chances before the break.

But they were better in the second half and it took a fine save from Jojo Wollacott to deny Harvey Bradbury after the striker had met Milan Lalkovic’s cross.

Bristol City went straight up the other end to double their advantage, however, with Connor Lemonheigh-Evans converting George Dowling’s cutback at the far post.

The visitors continue to dominate possession and press for a way back into the game, but they failed to break down a well-organised Robins outfit.

Pompey beat Newport 4-1 in their opening Central League Cup match and still have a trip to Exeter (date TBA) to come.

Pompey: O’Brien, Talbot, T.Davies, Whatmough, Hyam (McDowell 46), Buxton, Widdrington, Linganzi, Bedford (Scutt 66), Lalkovic, Bradbury (Woodward 70)
