BAKER: A WILL TO WIN

21 October 2016

Midfielder confident ahead of County clash

There were some murmurings of discontent when Pompey suffered successive defeats a few weeks ago.

A sloppy display at Blackpool was followed by a lethargic opening against Doncaster on home soil.

But Carl Baker refused to let those performances affect his confidence in the Blues’ abilities as a team.

And after collecting four points from the past two games, he is looking to continue the revival when Notts County visit Fratton Park on Saturday.

Baker said: “The win at Leyton Orient was a great result for us and it was important to put things right on the road.

“It was always going to be a tough game at Plymouth, but we stood up to the test and were the better team. We were unlucky not to get the three points.

“There was no pressure, though, because I know the players we’ve got here and we go into every single match looking to win.

“We’d had a couple of poor results, but I always knew we could turn that around and go on another run.

“There will be times during the season when you don’t perform to the maximum or things don’t go your way.

“But you just have to keep working hard and believe that you can win the next game when it comes along.

“The lads are all confident after the last couple of results and we’ve enjoyed a sharp week in training ahead of Saturday.

“We’ve been playing well at Fratton Park and even against Doncaster we were a bit unlucky not to nick something.”
