At this stage of last season, Pompey were three places higher in the table and had collected five more points.
But Kyle Bennett feels that they have improved on one aspect after 13 games of the 2016/17 campaign.
The Blues did not string three league wins together until the final few weeks last term, but have already achieved that feat this time around.
There were four successive victories in August and September – and now Bennett is looking for another similar run.
“We’re not going to win every game,” he says in the official matchday magazine for today’s clash with Notts County. “But the important thing is to not get too down after a poor result and to just look ahead to the next one.
“It took us ages to put three wins together last season, but we did that early on this time and so that shows progression. We actually got four on the bounce and now we need to do that again.
“I do think that the table’s already starting to take shape – I think the sides who are up there now will still be up there come May, although there might be a few others who join us.
“There’s still time for teams to climb the table, just as there is for us to get to the top of the league, which is where we want to be.
“There are 33 games left to play and there will be ups and downs in that time – but hopefully more of the former.”
