LALKOVIC: COMPETITION IS FIERCE

23 September 2016

Winger interviewed in Barnet programme

Milan Lalkovic will hope to be back in the Pompey side this weekend.

The Slovakian winger had to be content with a place on the bench for a 1-0 defeat at Accrington last Saturday, as Kyle Bennett was preferred wide on the left.

There were no toys flung out of the pram, however, with Lalkovic understanding the need to keep the squad fresh.

And if there is a return to the starting line-up against Barnet, he knows he will have to be at his best to stay there.

“The manager makes his decision and you have to respect that,” says Lalkovic in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash.

“Benno is also a good player and sometimes rotation is needed. I’m obviously never happy to be out of the side, but you have to do what is right for the team.

“The loan system has changed and you can’t just send people out during the season if they need to play.

“That means there are going to be a lot of guys in the squad and they’re going to be pushing you for a place in the team.

“It’s important that you work hard if you want to stay there because we’ve got a strong side with a lot of potential.”

To read the full interview – where Lalkovic also discusses his time at Chelsea and Slovakian football – pick up a copy of the magazine from programme sellers around the ground.

Also in issue five, Liam O’Brien takes the 20 Questions challenge, while we test Adam May’s general knowledge.

There’s an in-depth look at Barnet, plus exclusive columns from Iain McInnes, Paul Cook and Michael Doyle.

All this and much, much more in a packed 84 pages is available for just £3.
