Nigel Churm scoops the prize thanks to Dory Yates
A lifelong Pompey fan from Derby has won £12,000 in the Pompey Lottery annual draw.
Nigel Churm joined the membership scheme in May 2014 and has been a loyal supporter of the club since he was a boy.
He first attended Fratton Park in 1959, witnessing Jimmy Dickinson captain his side to 3-1 defeat against Manchester United.
Nigel thought nothing more of his monthly subscription of less than £10 until he received a call from Pompey Lottery administrator Bridget Barnes informing him of the substantial win – and personally inviting him and a friend to Fratton Park for a cheque presentation.
These days, he does not get to attend many games, but uses his lottery membership as a way of supporting the club from afar and was absolutely thrilled with the win.
He said: “Wow, I am staggered. I think I will use the money for a holiday or two.”

Earlier this year, 10 players from the Pompey Academy took part in a chip-in challenge to determine the winner (see video below).
Ahead of the challenge, 10 finalists were randomly selected from our lottery system and were each allocated an academy player to take part on their behalf.
Each player was given a number to represent their finalist, and the first player to successfully land their ball in the drum won the £12,000 prize – in this case, young Dory Yates playing for Mr Nigel Churm.
The Pompey Lottery scheme raises funds for the club’s academy and becoming a member will help us improve facilities and equipment, and give our scholars the best chance of fulfilling their dreams of becoming professional footballers.
For just £2 per week, you will also be in with a chance of winning fantastic cash prizes and some truly amazing Pompey experiences in our weekly, monthly and annual lottery draws.
