MATCH PREVIEW: MANSFIELD v POMPEY

28 April 2017

All you need to know about League Two clash

Promotion has already been secured, but that does not mean Pompey can coast to the end of the season.

They realistically need to beat Mansfield on Saturday if they are to have any chance of overhauling Doncaster and Plymouth to secure the title.

But their hosts are not likely to roll over, as the Stags still have plenty to play for in their final two games.

Steve Evans’ men are currently sitting just outside the play-off spots in eighth position – just one point behind Stevenage directly above them.

They beat Boro 1-0 in their last outing and are currently enjoying a three-match unbeaten run after starting April with successive defeats.

Evans has been in the Field Mill dug-out since the middle of November and led the club up the League Two table.

His predecessor departed following a 4-0 defeat at Fratton Park, when Mansfield had two men sent off on a miserable afternoon on the south coast.

Gary Roberts netted an early penalty for Pompey, while late goals from Noel Hunt and Carl Baker – the latter bagging a brace – completed the damage.

TEAM NEWS
Stanley Aborah is likely to miss the game with a neck problem, while Eoin Doyle (groin) and Noel Hunt (shoulder) are both still sidelined.

Mansfield will once again be without goalkeeper Scott Shearer (knee), but have no other injury concerns.
