MATCH PREVIEW: NOTTS COUNTY v POMPEY

16 April 2017

All you need to know about League Two clash

Pompey have been edging closer to automatic promotion for a few weeks now – and could cross the finishing line on Easter Monday.

Paul Cook’s men will be guaranteed a place in League One if they beat Notts County and Luton fail to win at a Mansfield side chasing a play-off spot.

Their opponents have nothing but pride to play for in the remaining few weeks of the season, but are in a good run of form.

A 2-2 draw at Crewe on Good Friday – courtesy of goals from Adam Campbell and Michael O’Connor – ended their run of four straight victories.

Magpies fans will be cursing a 10-match losing league sequence earlier in the season that ended any hopes of a promotion push.

And they might have been in the midst of a relegation battle had Kevin Nolan not been brought in to replace the sacked John Sheridan at the start of 2017 and inspire a turnaround in form.

County will hope to complete a ‘double’ over Pompey, having triumphed 2-1 on the south coast back in October.

It was the same outcome when the Blues visited Meadow Lane last season and they will be searching for a first win on their opponents’ patch since 1994.

TEAM NEWS
Pompey have no new injury concerns, although Eoin Doyle (groin) and Noel Hunt (shoulder) are both still sidelined.

Notts County are also in good health and former Blues defensive duo Carl Dickinson and Richard Duffy are likely to feature for them.
