Jackett Welcomes Pompey Challenge

Manager interviewed in Rochdale programme

5 August 2017

Pompey v Rochdale programme

Pompey will be backed by a large and passionate crowd at Fratton Park today.

The ground will be packed to watch them open their 2017/18 League One campaign against Rochdale.

Tornante’s recent takeover of the club and some new summer signings should also boost the atmosphere.

And Blues boss Kenny Jackett knows that the fans have a part to play in helping to shape a successful season.

“The players will want to capitalise on the fantastic support we’ll receive,” he says in the official matchday magazine for today’s game. “The number of season tickets that have been sold really is terrific.

"We need to make sure we have a team on the pitch that will make those fans respond."

“We need to make sure we have a team on the pitch that will make those fans respond because if we do then that backing can be a major factor in us having a successful campaign.

“I see it as a challenge rather than pressure – and so should the players. It’s something that we should be using to our advantage.

“I’ve been to Fratton Park before as a player and an opposition manager. It’s a fantastic ground and I’m sure the crowd will drive us forward.”

To read the full interview – where Jackett also discusses pre-season, new signings and the club’s academy – pick up a copy of the magazine from programme sellers around Fratton Park.

Also in issue one of our new-look publication, Jack Whatmough reveals his favourite things, while Theo Widdrington is first to take the ‘Home & Away’ quiz.

We also take an in-depth look at Rochdale, while there are exclusive columns from Jackett, chief executive Mark Catlin, skipper Brett Pitman and broadcaster Ian Darke.
