McCrory: Holiday Can't Compete With Blues Switch

Loan signing delighted to join Pompey

31 August 2017

He had to cut short a holiday to sign for Pompey on loan.

But Damien McCrory definitely has no regrets about becoming the latest deadline day arrival at Fratton Park.

The left-back was allowed to leave Burton until January, despite having featured in five games for the Championship side this season.

And he is hopeful that the Blues can build on last season’s success to enjoy a successful campaign in League One.

McCrory said: “I was actually on a holiday in Cornwall because of the international break when I got the call.

"Portsmouth is a huge club and this is a great opportunity for me to get back to playing games regularly."

“So I just made my way here as quickly as I could. It took a bit of time, but I’m glad the deal’s all sorted.

“Portsmouth is a huge club and this is a great opportunity for me to get back to playing games regularly.

“I suppose I’m a modern-day left-back – first and foremost I’m a good defender, but I like to get forward as well.

“This club won League Two last season and who’s to say we can’t do something similar this time around.”

McCrory has performed at Fratton Park before, but is now looking forward to the fans cheering him on.

He said: “We played Pompey in League Two a few times and there are no other grounds at that level like Fratton Park.

“The manager would always say to go out and ignore the crowd, but now I’m looking forward to them being on my side.”
