Transfer deadline day is always a hectic day in football – especially if you are moving clubs.
And Stuart O’Keefe’s switch to Pompey from Cardiff created plenty of upheaval for the midfielder.
But the 26-year-old is certainly not complaining about his season-long loan move to the south coast.
O’Keefe – who featured against the Blues in a Carabao Cup tie earlier this month – is excited about the opportunity to join a club he believes are on the rise.
He said: “There are always a lot of rumours during the transfer window – plenty of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’.
“But this move has appealed to me ever since the first time I heard it suggested and it’s nice to get the deal done, albeit on deadline day.
"This is a huge club for League One, with an enormous fan-base."
“I was at Cardiff and then I got a phone call last night saying to get to Portsmouth in the morning.
“That’s always the way at this time – everyone seems to be in a bit of a rush. But I’m certainly happy to be here now.
“This is a huge club for League One, with an enormous fan-base. It’s a club on the up, so it’s a good time to be at Portsmouth.
“I obviously played against the team in the cup for Cardiff a few weeks ago and I was impressed at how close it was.
“I spoke to Greg Halford and he told me what a great club this was and how good the fans are here down here.”
O’Keefe is hoping that he can make an impression in the Pompey side and is looking forward to running out at Fratton Park.
He said: “I’m a box-to-box player with plenty of energy, so hopefully I can add a bit of bite to our midfield.
“Fratton Park is always a fantastic place to come and play, so I’m glad that I can now call it my home ground.”
