Boxing Day Blues

Close interviewed in AFC Wimbledon programme

26 December 2017

It is one of the most popular Christmas traditions.

And the Blues are back at Fratton Park on Boxing Day following a couple of years with games on the road.

Kenny Jackett’s side host AFC Wimbledon, looking to get their form back on track following defeat at Shrewsbury.

Ben Close will hope to be involved in midfield and experience this particular festive ritual for the very first time.

“I’ve never actually played a game on Boxing Day before, so hopefully I can be involved this season,” he says in the official matchday magazine for today’s game.

“There are quite a few fixtures over the Christmas period and footballers do enjoy being out there playing rather than training, so we’re all looking forward to it.

“There are a few sacrifices to be made at this time of year, but we get a chance to enjoy ourselves in the summer.

“It’s a small price to pay. Our job is to go out and get results and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”

Also in issue 15, Dion Donohue reveals his favourite things, while Stuart O’Keefe takes the Home & Away quiz.
