FA Cup Progress For Ladies

Pompey fight back to win at Wimbledon

4 December 2017

Pompey Ladies came from behind to beat AFC Wimbledon and book their place in the third round of the Women’s FA Cup.

They got off to a poor start at Gander Green Lane, with Isabelle Asplund breaking through and slotting the ball past Robyn Levett.

The visitors immediately set about looking for an equaliser and Rachel Panting struck the crossbar, while Shannon Albuery’s effort flew narrowly over the bar.

But the Blues were level early in the second half, when Panting squared the ball for Samantha Quayle to score.

And the tie was turned on its head a few moments later, as Amelia Southgate converted a cross from Molly Clark.

Pompey dominated the rest of the contest, with Clark and Panting both going close to giving the scoreline an added gloss.

Blues boss Jay Sadler said: “It was a hard-fought victory against a very solid AFC Wimbledon side. I’m looking forward to the third round draw.”

Pompey: Levett; Kirby (Bazan 59), Southgate, Currie, Peck; Boswell, Clark; Panting, Albuery (Simmons 78), Stephens; Quayle (McLachlan 89)
Subs not used: Widdowson, James
