MATCH PREVIEW: POMPEY v BLACKPOOL

14 February 2017

All you need to know about League Two clash

Plenty of Pompey fans will be looking to spend tonight with their one true love.

And while their partners stay at home watching Holby City and evaluating their life choices, they will be hoping to see the Blues secure a second home victory in less than a week.

Goals from Matt Clarke and Kal Naismith saw Accrington defeated at Fratton Park on Saturday.

But Blackpool could provide a sterner test, as Paul Cook’s side look to maintain their hunt for automatic promotion.

The Seasiders are currently down in 11th position and looking to close the five-point gap between themselves and the play-off spots.

They go into the game on the back of a convincing 4-1 triumph at third-placed Carlisle, courtesy of goals from Brad Potts, Jordan Flores, Sanmi Odelusi and Nathan Delfouneso.

It was a result that keeps alive their hopes of making an instant return to League One following a second successive relegation last term.

And it also brought to an end a run of six games without a win that stretched all the way back to Boxing Day.

Conor Chaplin scored a stunning strike when the sides met at Bloomfield Road back in September, but some generous defending meant it was the hosts who emerged 3-1 victors on that occasion.

TEAM NEWS
Curtis Main (knee) is still sidelined for Pompey, but Cook has an otherwise fully-fit squad to choose from.

Jim McAlister is missing for the visitors with a broken leg, while Neil Danns had to come off injured at the weekend and Andy Taylor (collarbone) is also a doubt.
